The bonfires of Samhain burn bright at McMenamins, beckoning spirits and keeping the darkness of winter at bay. At Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival, the veil between this world and the Otherworld grows thin, faeries and departed souls cross over, and humankind honors its dead. To dodge the mischief of evildoing spirits, people dressed in disguise; to ensure they survived until the days grew longer, offerings of food and drink were made to gods and nature spirits.
