Tasting Notes: Even in a relatively cool vintage like 2010, Syrah from Chukar Ridge displays all of the strength and depth of flavor we would normally only expect from a warmer vintage. This is largely due to the unique growing conditions at this vineyard site where steady Gorge winds help thicken the skins of the maturing fruit. Come harvest the winds gently dry out the grapes, further concentrating flavors. Aged in ~20% new oak barrels this dark, concentrated wine displays ripe fruit aromas of blackberry, dark cherry cola and blueberry along with pepper, sweet oak and vanilla. The fruit suggested by the nose carries through to the palate, with big cherry and cassis flavors culminating in a long, full finish.
Food Pairing: Syrah is delicious when paired with rich, fatty cuts of meat like bacon or pork chops, as well as barbeque beef spareribs. Grilled tuna steaks are also a great choice. Strongly flavored, grilled sausages or firm, aged cheeses also make great pairings with Syrah.
