2011 Vintage Select Chardonnay
Quadrato Vineyard, Willamette Valley Oregon
- Product Story
Release date: November 1, 2012
Tasting Notes: Moderate straw yellow in color, the nose of the 2011 VS Chardonnay is moderately fruity, with notes of fresh pineapple and pineapple juice, along with baked apple and lemon. The fruit aromas are complemented by hints of oak spice, vanilla, and a bread like quality from aging the wine in contact with the lees. On the palate, it is dry, with a balanced acidity and alcohol. It is moderately full in body, with a lingering finish of minerality, oak and pineapple.
Fun Facts: This is a more Burgundian style of Chardonnay - it has a higher acid profile that supports a tighter, leaner, and more focused wine as opposed to a bigger, more open fruit-forward style. The vines for this wine are all Burgundian clones of Chardonnay, which lend themselves to cooler growing climates than the California clones which dominated NW plantings of Chardonnay through the 1990's. The Quadrato Vineyard is outside of Monmouth Oregon and is operated by the Olsen family, fourth generation farmers in the central Willamette Valley.
